It had to happen eventually; the rising tide of unexpected comebacks lifts all boats.
By the end of the year any hip-hop artist who released music more than five years ago will have dropped a new project. Many, like the new Hurricane Chris single, will feature production from DJ Mustard and a feature from Ty Dolla $ign, currently two of the most bankable artists a label can attach to any project.

So, there it is—the “Ay Bay Bay” rapper just released a new single called “Sections,” and it sounds very 2015. Ty Dolla $ign supplies a golden-voiced hook, while DJ Mustard provides brassy, stomping percussion. The rest is up to Hurricane Chris, who sounds just as agreeably sneering as he did back in 2005, if a bit more mature. The rapper who was once “up in the club with no shoes on” is now luxuriating in his private section, with models and crew all around.
Look out for his forthcoming mixtape Hurricane Season dropping soon.
