Fergie Sets Her Comeback Via DJ Mustard with ‘L.A. Love’: Listen

Well, you might not have seen this coming: Black Eyed Peas vocalist Fergie has teamed up with producer du jour DJ Mustard for her comeback solo single “L.A. Love.”

Fergie made a huge impact in on the last decade of pop with her debut album Duchess, released in 2006 but hadn’t released anything since. Eight years later, she’s aiming to jumpstart her non-Peas career with the Mustard-produced single.

Though the core elements of Mustard’s sound are present — glimmering chords over a tripped-down bass line — he’s turned them into something more suited for pop radio play, with big stadium drum fills.

Fergie goes global, shouting out locations around the world: she exhorts everywhere from L.A. to Switzerland to shout “la la la la,” even adopting specific regional accents, charmingly crowing about “Frawnce” and “Lahn-dahn.”

Fergie’s Duchess followup does not currently have a release date.
