Just days after Jamie Foxx made his musical comeback alongside 2 Chainz with the banger “Party Ain’t a Party,” the pair are now on the receiving end of a lawsuit.
According to songwriter J Rand, Foxx lifted the lyrics of his song, which uses the same DJ Mustard-produced instrumental, Billboard reports. After Mustard initially sent the beat to J Rand, California radio stations reportedly premiered the song last November but it didn’t gain any traction because the DJ “went radio silent and failed to respond to their advances,” as it says in the lawsuit.

Fast forward to when Foxx’s song dropped last week and Rand picked up on the more-than-similarities noticing the song not only used the same beat, but also had the same lyrics. “Specifically, the underlying material and Jamie Foxx’s lyrics contained in the Subsequent Work are identical to the lyrics sung by J Rand in the sound recording of the Original Work,” the lawsuit states.
Nontra Records — Rand’s label, which filed the lawsuit — alleges that 2 Chainz’s presence on the song is really the only thing that distinguishes it from Rand’s original. They’re requesting at least $150,000 from Foxx, 2 Chainz and DJ Mustard for copyright infringement.
In response to the lawsuit, DJ Mustard’s representative has issued the statement to Billboard: “DJ Mustard did not grant any rights to a third party to exploit the recording, ‘Party Ain’t A Party,’ and, accordingly, this claim against DJ Mustard has absolutely no merit.”
